Department of Zoology

Introduction.

The department of Zoology has a glorious track –record. Before 1965 there was separate Biology department

Later ,Zoology and Botany segregated into two independent departments. The departmental museum is very rich in having diversity and stands as one of the best Zoological museums of all Colleges of this povince. It includes more than 500 specimens of diverse phyla.

This museum was set-up in 1956-57 by late Prof. N. R. Amin and Prof. R. M. Patel. The departmental library is also very rich. It includes 7 volumes of GRZIMEKS animal life Encyclopedia, 2 volumes of Fishes of India by DAY ad other reference books. In all 123 books found in the departmental library. Prof .N. R. Amin retied as He Of the department in 1990-91 followed by who was soon promoted as Principal of the Institution. The department Has a big practical laboratory which can accommodate 100 students at a time. The lab is well equipped and has a Good infrastructure. All the practicals are explained by teachers on OHP to students before they start their practical

Exercises, the students are explained the same on an OHP by the teachers. The students are also giving seminars on Various topics. Guest lectures of experts are also being organized on a regular  basis. The present head of the department, Dr. Rakesh Trivedi, is a renowned environmentalist of this city .His contribution. In this field has been acclaimed Several times. His innovative ideas of memory plantation has been adapted by the local Municipal corporation as “ Pitra Parvat” which has given Indore , an identity card of Green Monuments.
